Program Description
College Park Academy (CPA) is a rigorous college-preparatory school, with robust extra-curricular enrichment programs, and early college credit opportunities. This dynamic school that features blended learning will enable students to earn college credits (including credits at the University of Maryland) in Prince George’s County by high school commencement.
Things You Need to Know About Enrolling in a Charter School
If you are currently living in Prince George’s County but your child is not enrolled in a Prince George’s County Public School, you will need to obtain a Prince George’s County Public School issued student number for your child – this number is required to complete the charter school lottery application. You do not need to withdraw your child from the school currently attending to get this number.
Transportation
Transportation to and from charter schools is not provided by Prince George’s County Public Schools. Transportation is the sole responsibility of the parent. Parents must provide transportation for their students (located near the College Park Metro).
Charter School Lottery application
The Charter School Lottery application is open from November through January for the following school year. An application must be submitted for anyone who is interested in attending, no exceptions. The last day to submit a Lottery application for all charter schools is near January 27(the last day varies every year. Charter Lottery Results will be available in the Spring. You may track your Lottery status online via your ScribOrder Family Dashboard. In the event you are not offered a seat, you must reapply annually.
Create your ScribOrder Family Dashboard Account to apply to the Lottery. A profile is needed for each student https://pgcpsmdc.scriborder.com/family
Things to Remember
Do not create more than one account. Keep all email confirmations as your record of lottery entries. Parents are encouraged to check with individual charter schools for updates and changes.
IMPORTANT: If you submitted an application last year, you will need to update your child’s expected grade on the student profile page before you apply for the upcoming school year. Student names and responsible parent/guardian must be spelled accurately and match as indicated in SchoolMax. Any variation will prohibit the entry of an application for the Lottery.
Sibling Preference Process
Prince George’s County Public Schools give lottery preference to new students who already have a sibling in the school. Siblings must live in the same household, have the same responsible parent/guardian, and both current sibling and incoming sibling must be enrolled at the charter school for the upcoming school year. Families must submit a valid Lottery application during the public charter school open enrollment season from November through January to be eligible for sibling preference. Sibling preference is based on seat availability and never a guarantee to be offered a seat.
Geographic Preference
Students who live within the boundaries of the catchment area, which includes the following elementary schools have a geographic preference: Berwyn Heights, Cherokee Lane, Hollywood, Paint Branch, Riverdale, and University Park (the “Limited Catchment Area”). You must submit a valid Lottery application submitted by the deadline to be eligible for a geographic preference. Geographic preference is never a guarantee to be offered a seat.
