National Honor Society

The College Park Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society

Introduction

For nearly a century, the National Honor Society has been a leader among organizations and societies, encouraging students to exemplify outstanding achievement in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
Since 2016, the College Park Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society has been serving the school and local community through a variety of efforts, such as tutoring middle school students, fundraising for blood cancer research, collecting goods for local food banks, and cleaning up litter along Rivertech road.
Member Activities and Responsibilities
As members of the College Park Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society, students have opportunities to gain leadership experience by managing community service projects within and beyond the school building.
NHS meets twice a month, during the school day, to design, plan, and execute service projects. Students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.5 and to complete at least 20 hours of volunteer work each school year. The work completed by our chapter is student-led with members elected to the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer each year.
Following induction, new members are required to make a one-time dues payment of $25.

Selection Process

In late September, invitations are sent by email to all students in grades 10, 11, and 12 who have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and who have completed at least 24 service-learning hours.
If those students are interested in joining our NHS chapter, they will fill out and submit the accompanying candidate forms for review by our five-member faculty council. Selection is based on the students’ history of scholarship, character, leadership, and service, both inside and outside of school.
Students selected by the counsel are notified by email of their acceptance into the National Honor Society and are invited to our official induction ceremony that takes place in late October. Candidates are not official members of the organization until they participate in the induction ceremony.
