College Park Academy seeks to prepare each student for a top college or university and we understand that needs differ depending on the student. We steer clear of a “one size fits all” approach to education, and instead opt for a system which values individuality and personalized learning.
College Park Academy’s curriculum is designed as a blend of online learning and on-site classes. Having access to online learning provides students the opportunity to move at their own pace while developing a strong sense of responsibility and self-sufficiency because they decide what pace to work at and which blocks of time to devote to which subjects. Instructors and success coaches are there to support and guide the students but they are the main player in their education when it comes to online learning and this provides an opportunity for independence. We allow students the room needed to take ownership over their education, and as a result they grow invested in themselves and confident in their ability to drive their own success. Rather than the traditional education experience where college is the first time students hold responsibility over their assignments, College Park Academy students experience this as early as middle school, and by the time they enter college, they have mastered independent study and self-sufficiency.
To further personalize learning for College Park Academy students, we provide the opportunity for acceleration. If students grasp subjects quickly, they can progress in their courses at whichever speed is challenging and engaging for them. This limits distraction by keeping all students occupied with their studies. Accelerated classes enable students to master subjects on a deeper level by allowing them to move at their own, individualized pace while guaranteeing full understanding of subjects before progression to the next level. This deeper understanding of subject matter is reflected in our students’ test scores, which are among the highest in the state.
College Park Academy offers a variety of levels for each grade and each subject so students make the most of their education. For example, for high school math, students can enroll in Statistics instead of traditional Calculus if they desire. Also available to them, AP Statistics for an extra challenge. Our wide variety of course selection allows students some agency to select courses which interest and challenge them. This applies to core subjects as well as electives. CPA offers several foreign language options, and plenty of elective options to capture the interest of every student and we permit students to enroll in as many electives as they like. Students have their choice of Spanish, German, Chinese, French, Italian, and American Sign Language.
We encourage our students to develop their interests and hobbies inside the classroom and outside of it. Personalization extends beyond class hours because we offer several extracurriculars to continue fostering an inspired learning environment beyond school hours. Students can participate in basketball, robotics, cultural clubs, art and performance clubs, gaming clubs, and more.
College Park Academy understands that students are different. They have different learning styles, speeds, and needs. They also have different sets of hobbies and plans for their future. We want to prepare each student for success in college or university, so College Park Academy supports students by allowing them to move at the pace they like in the subjects they choose. This is an effective way to allow students to delve deeper in understanding their studies, and this becomes apparent when test scores are examined. CPA test scores are among the highest in the state, reflecting an effectiveness in our methods of personalization. Personalized learning encourages independence and growth while also creating more well-rounded education opportunities for students to face challenges and inspiration.
